A Case study of Tafseer zia ul Quran

Abstract

M.Karam Shah Al-Alzhari stands prominent amongst the religious scholars of his age. He took
full advantage of the chance bestowed upon him from ALLAH [s.w.t] by adding his TAFSEER
Zia-ul-Quran among some of the best Tafaseer in Urdu religious literature. Like the author of
the Tafsser, itself holds a unique and auspicious status in the history of Urdu Tafssers.
The excruciating pain that Peer Karam Shah Al-Azhari felt for the Ummah developed a
devotion, conviction and enthusiasm in his work. Due to this perseverance the Tafseer helps its
reader to explore convincing, fascinating and spellbinding realities concealed in the Holy
Quran. This Tafseer not only fulfills the religious needs of a Muslim but also perfectly follows
the lexical and grammatical wants of the language. Tven tough the Tafseer is highly ranked in
the intellectual circles yet it is simple, unpretentious and pleasurable to read.
The author wrote this Tafseer on pure scholarly basis by making strong yet elegant arguments
for his religious thoughts. Thus even his scholarly rivals may benefit from his work without any
harsh feelings. The very target of this tafseer is that Quran is the book of guidance for all
humanity. The author in his own style not only convinces the reader to read and understand the
true concept of the message sent by ALLAH, but also sways the reader to judge his own self on
the scale set for the virtue by ALLAH HIMSELF. In this critical and analytical study of the
Tafseer will bring the methodology of the Tafseer to the limelight along other precious
information about rules and regulations of recitation of Quran. The author have shown his
genuine, earnest and devoted love for the Holy Prophet [صلى الله عليه وسلم .[This love, affection and
devotion of the author undoubtedly leaves and impression on the readers mind.
The author, first of all, took the Holy Quran itself as the basic source of the Tafseer. Along the
Holy Quran, the author took help from the life and Sunnah of the holy prophet. He also
mentioned the opinions of the Sahaba companions and Tabeen successors whenever and
wherever needed. The author is a convinced follower of the Hanafi school of thought in Islamic
law and the legal study of the Holy Quran, thus strongly presented his opinion in the Tafseer.
The author’s grip on the Quranic science can be determined by the detailed introduction,
reason of revelation and the full picture for the title of each Surah given at the opening of each
Surah after exhausting efforts made by him. He also mentioned some Israelite narration on
their proper occasion to explicitly elucidate the subject of the matter in some cases of the Holy
Quran.
In short, this work is according to the necessities and demands of the era which
provides a sufficient guidance in the field of modern tafseer.
