Abstract

The mixing of languages shows how deeply they are connected and how they influence each other,s culture and language. Many Urdu and Persian words have been absorbed into the Pashto language. Likewise, Arabic words entered Pashto through Islam and the Holy Qur’an. Over time, these words became a natural part of the Pashto vocabulary, such as īmān (faith), taqwā (piety), ṣabr (patience), fanā (perishing), baqā (eternity), masjid (mosque), and tawḥīd (monotheism) etc.

Arabic words in Pashto are not used only as simple terms; they also carry deeper religious and spiritual meanings, which are clearly seen in the poetry of Abdul Rahman Baba. There are also other Arabic words that ordinary Pashto speakers may not use, but scholars and educated people understand their origins and meanings.
