Abstract

A poet has a very sensitive and critical heart. He is influenced by the his surroundings and atmosphere just like a layman is but being a sensitive soul a poet has very strong feelings about the nature and his surroundings. He feels and notices things that go unnoticed by a layman. This is the basic difference between a poet and a layman. Poets belonging to different nationalities and times share commonalities among them and this is a natural phenomenon. This shared property among them is a natural thing. Sometimes there a spatial gape among the poets and sometimes there is considerable gape of time among them but because they read the poetry of other poets, it is natural thing that they get influenced by each other and sometimes they copy the concepts, contents or style from each other. Similarly, sometimes poets are contemporary to each other and they face similar issues and problems as faced by other poets of the same age and place. All the poets are influenced by those incidents but they express it in their own peculiar ways. To the same category fall the Egyptian poet Ahmad Shooqi and sub continental/ Pakistan poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal. They are not only contemporary to each other but they also share other similarities. For example both have same religion, both had their higher education in the West and both are highly patriotic poets. In the present paper I have tried to explore such similarities in themes and style in the poetry of the two poets.
