Abstract

The Holy Quran is the last Book which Almighty Allah has revealed on Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) for the guidance of the entire humanity till the Day of Judgment. The Quran covers all aspects of human life, therefore, it is a universal book and it is in Arabic which is a universal language. Arabic in its vocabulary, depth of meaning and rhetoric was   considered to be a rich language even before the Quran came. When the Quran came, it further polished these characteristics of Arabic and gave it new color and eternal life. The Quran influenced the Arabic language in many aspects. One important aspect is how Quran influenced Arabic Poetry. All the philologists agree that the Quran has changed Arabic Poetry. This influence is quite visible in the works of the Poets during the period of Prophet (S.A.W), his four Caliphs and onward; even up to the modern age. The Quran has influenced Arabic Poetry in many ways; we see that some poets in their poetry have used the verse(s) of the Holy Quran with their Quranic meaning, while others have used Quranic verses, not in their Quranic sense but in their dictionary meaning. Besides, a lot of Quranic vocabulary has been used by the poets of the past, as well as, the poets of modern age. In this way, their poetry has become more ornamented and more attractive because of the miracle of Holy Quran. The Quran converted their tribal enmity into ‘Jihad’ and gave it a positive direction for the welfare of the entire humanity. This thing reflected in the poetry of the period of ignorance. The poets of this period made their poetry an effective tool of propagation and expansion of the Message of the Prophet. Instead of admiring wine and women, they started promoting good things and moral values. The use of the Quranic words and Quranic verses, which started during the life of the Prophet, is still continuing till modern age.
